Duke Johnson, Will Stoll, and Cherilynn Morrow. Will send-off. Yellowknife Airport. March 2013

HERE WE GO AGAIN!  The Tremendous Trio of impassioned science educators is traveling to Tromso, NORWAY to photograph the northern lights!  Last year (2013) our northern lights adventures took us to Yellowknife, CANADA.  The blog for that mission starts here and also tells you a bit about who we are. Yellowknife was so enlivening (including the outreach mission after we returned) we could not resist another opportunity during this solar maximum. The next one is 11 years from now.  Carpe diem!

There is a LOT more chance of cloudiness in Tromso compared to Yellowknife, but it is worth taking the chance to go because of the pervasively enchanting scenery.  We yearn to see and share images of the northern lights reflected in water and/or illuminating some snow capped peaks.

Sooo…come along with the Tremendous Tromso Trio  via this blog!  The team looks forward to your comments and questions.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.  So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  – Mark Twain

  1. The blog from last trip is so fun and descriptive, and the photos are amazing.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to follow along with you all!

  2. Hey Nancy! Yes…in the works. Hard work here getting settled. Weather and weariness is challenging us. Hang in there!

  3. Hi Cheri! Fun to see that it is 25F here in MI and snowing, and that (according to the Weather Channel) it is 34F and partly sunny in Norway…eagerly awaiting your Blog entries once you get on your feet there~ Is there a Donate button somewhere for this trip?? Lots of love from the Clan here!

    • Hello dear Jan. So nice to see you in the posted comments! We didn’t do a Kickstarter site this time because we decided to pull it together at the last moment, but thanks so much for the spirit of wanting to contribute!!

Yes, it is remarkably warm here compared to our northern lights experience in Yellowknife last year, and it’s even warmer than the time together with you in Michigan over Christmas! :-) The proximity of open water and the Gulf Stream really moderates the climate here. We are more than 69 degrees north latitude and the fyords are not even close to being frozen over…only a little ice on the fringe. The temperature has been hovering right around freezing plus or minus. We have not yet used our full arctic gear, and don’t imagine we will. Love to you and the whole clan there!
